The policy explicitly states that the information provided is only for information purposes and the City does not guarantee that is complete, accurate, or fit for any particular purpose. It also states that the City is not liable for faults in the Open Data or third party applications of it.

Prior to this policy, Oakland's data portal had already been launched. This policy requires: 

  • A City Administrator must present a regulations draft about the technical requirements of the data with 180 days. 
  • Within a year, a City Administrator must publish an inventory of Open Data and a plan to disseminate it. 
  • Within a year, all datasets on oaklandnet.com to the Open Data catalog.

The policy states the City Data must be consistent with the California Public Records Act and the Oakland Sunshire Oridinance in both the citizens right to information and privacy.
